Creamy Avocado Dip

Unlike guacamole, Creamy Avocado Dip is blended until it is as smooth as silk and the perfect creamy texture. The ripe avocados provide the lovely velvety texture. And not only are they great for consistency, but they are also loaded with healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. They are nature’s healthy butter – making this avocado dip, when served with a variety of vegetables, a nutrient dense treat.

Creamy Avocado Dip was a family favourite when I was growing up. I didn’t start to enjoy avocados on their own until I was an adult, but this dip always had me coming back for more. For a different style try my Avocado and Goat’s Cheese Dip or Smoked Trout Dip.

Avocado Dip Ingredients

Lemon juice: The lemon plays two roles in the dip. First, it dramatically slows the avocado from turning brown and second, it adds a nice zing to the dip.

Mayonnaise: The sweetness of the mayonnaise counterbalances the tang of the lemon juice and the bitterness of the yoghurt.

Shallots: I only use the green part of the shallot for this dish. Did you know you can also regrow the shallots you buy from the supermarket? If they have the roots on them still, cut off the green part for this dish and then shove the roots in the garden to grow your own shallots. You can also put them in a glass of water and they’ll grow! Great waste-free tip, right?

Adding the shallots to the avocado dip provides a savoury, peppery onion flavour.

Seasoning: Don’t forget this part. Sprinkle in some salt and pepper to taste. The amount will vary depending on your tastebuds and the avocado flavour.

Blending all ingredients in a food processor or blender ensures there are no lumps and bumps, and the avocado dip becomes lusciously creamy. Serve it up with an assortment of crunchy veggie sticks and florets and Crispy Spiced Tortilla Chips. There you have it, a healthy snack in minutes!
