Maple Chilli Walnuts
Maple Chilli Walnuts are a delicious combination of sweet and spicy, perfectly balancing any bitterness of the nut. I first made these little bursts of flavour to sprinkle over a salad. But they never made their way to the salad bowl. Little fingers in the kitchen pinched them until there were none left! Funnily enough my Cinnamon Maple Cashews and Tamari Sunflower Seeds seem to have the same effect.
Although created for and delicious in salads and vegetable dishes, the nuts are great kept whole and eaten as a snack. A word of advice, if you are making them for a dish, throw a few extras in… just in case there are sneaky little fingers in your kitchen too!
Some schools in Australia are nut-free, so unfortunately these delightful snacks would be a no go. However, the Maple Chilli Walnuts will make the perfect snack for most secondary schools and workplaces.
What You Need to Know About Chilli Walnuts
Time: The Maple Chilli Walnuts are literally ready in under 10 minutes. In fact, your oven possibly takes longer to heat then the time it takes to prepare and cook the nuts.
Spice: Ramp up the spice of the chilli walnut or dull it down. Adjust the heat to suit any taste.
Maple: I have also tried using honey instead of the maple. However, my preference is the maple version. The maple with the chilli and the walnuts just works.
Baking: Spread the coated walnuts out on the lined baking tray in a single layer, this will help with an even cook.
Feedback: Have you tried the Maple Chilli Walnuts? I would love to hear how they were in the comments below. Cheers, Elby!
