Orange Bircher Muesli with Walnuts
Last Updated on October 31, 2024 by Elby | The Tasteful Pantry
Orange Bircher Muesli with Walnuts is a lovely citrusy alternative to the original Bircher muesli flavours. Sometimes referred to as overnight oats, Bircher muesli is left for a lengthy period to absorb the juice and yoghurt. This method provides a similar effect on the oats as when they are cooked for porridge. Traditional Bircher uses yoghurt, apple and lemon juice, but I like to mix it up. The citrusy burst of orange, the nutty crunch of the walnuts and the touch of sweetness from the maple syrup are a delicious combination in this recipe. Bringing a new twist to an old favourite.
Make the orange overnight oats breakfast bowl the night before an early morning start, just add the nuts and off you go. Or, if time is not a concern, you can make it the same morning and let it soak for an hour before digging in.
Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, and creating a delicious and nutritious dish is a must. That’s why my Orange Bircher Muesli with Walnuts has now become a regular on rotation in our house.
Making the Bircher Muesli
Time: Although there is a lengthy resting process, the actual making of the orange Bircher muesli is super quick and easy. Literally stir all the ingredients together (except for the nuts) and the oats are ready to soak up all the tasty flavours.
Waste-free: This recipe helps use up those oranges that have been sitting in the fruit bowl untouched. Or the leftover orange from my Orange Choc Chip Cookies. Bake the cookies for afternoon tea and make the Bircher muesli for the next morning, using the remaining orange. It’s a win, win!
Nuts: If walnuts are not your thing or you have none in the pantry, replace them with almonds.
Looking for an alternative to overnight oats? Why not try my Chia Pudding with Strawberries & Almonds. Or for a crunchier feel sprinkle my Toasted Muesli or Crunchy Maple Coconut Granola over some Greek yoghurt.
