Tamari Sunflower Seeds
Tamari sunflower seeds are crunchy and salty with a rich umami flavour. They make for a delicious and wholesome afternoon treat. Definitely a healthier alternative to chips, chocolate and other foods high in sugar and saturated fats. Careful though… they are so addictive it is entirely plausible to devour the whole batch in one sitting – very similar to my Cinnamon Maple Cashews and Maple Chilli Walnuts!
This recipe for Tamari seeds offers versatility. Swap sunflower seeds with pepitas (pumpkin seeds), sesame seeds or other favourite seed, or combine the lot. If choosing to use a variety, cook each seed type separately to ensure even toasting. They can be mixed together when cooling. Opting for a variety of seeds will also maximise the nutrient content of the snack.
Store tamari sunflower seeds in an airtight container in the pantry for up to a couple of weeks… if you can make them last that long! A snack that is ridiculously easy, super tasty and ultra nutritious is the perfect inclusion for the school or office lunchbox.
Try some tamari pepitas sprinkled on Pumpkin Soup or over Pumpkin and Feta Salad. Add tamari seeds to your trail mix. Sprinkle over Baked Mushroom Risotto. There are so many options for including these seeds into your diet.
Tamari vs Soy Sauce for the Seeds
Tamari and soy sauce can be used interchangeably in most recipes, with the primary distinction lying in the fact that while most soy sauces contain wheat, Tamari does not.
Movie nights, road trips, or just whenever you need a little pick-me-up. You’ve got a seed snack that’s not only delicious but also gluten-free, thanks to the Tamari. However, if you don’t need to use gluten-free, you can opt for soy sauce as a replacement.
