Tropical Smoothie
This Tropical Smoothie is refreshing and full of nutrients, making it great for an afternoon snack or a quick and easy breakfast to go. Mango is my absolute favourite fruit and drinking this smoothie reminds me of summer. So even in the cooler months, use frozen mango and you will be whisked to somewhere warmer – even if only for a few minutes!
There is nothing fancy about making a smoothie, anyone can do it. Get the kids in the kitchen to make their own afternoon tea. Throw all the ingredients in the blender and you’re all set. This smoothie is similar to my Banana Mango Smoothie – which is definitely worth a try.
Tropical Smoothie Ingredients
Bananas: Use ripe, preferably even overripe, banana. Ripe bananas are sweeter than underripe, and will make your tropical smoothie a nice sweet treat.
Mango: Frozen mango is fine to use, even though it can be a little less sweet than fresh. However, as it is available all year round, frozen is sometimes the only option.
Protein powder: If using protein powder, try to find a vanilla or plain flavour and one without artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners effect the flavour of the foods they are served with. They will likely make the tropical smoothie much sweeter than intended.
Milk: You can use most kinds of milks in smoothies. My go-to milks are coconut milk from a carton and unsweetened almond milk. But use what you have already open in the fridge.
Ice cubes: Adding ice to a smoothie before you blend, thickens it up nicely. However, if you are taking as an ‘on the go’ breakfast, also add some fresh ice after the blend to keep it icy cold for the trip.
Additions to the Tropical Smoothie: Add a sprig or two of mint leaves to the blender for a twist. A couple of pieces of fresh or frozen pineapple also adds a nice zing to the smoothie. Or why not try a tablespoon of shredded coconut to enhance the coconut flavour. Add half a cucumber to get in those extra greens – the kids won’t even know.
Enjoy the smoothie. For another refreshing drink, also try my Blueberry Coconut Smoothie. Cheers, Elby!
